For Annette

I really enjoyed this piece of commissioned work, particularly the amount of detail in the middle child's top.

Paper cut out portraits
Hoping Mum will be pleased with these paper cut out portraits of her grandchildren, backed with hessian for a natural feel. The one of my 2 girls took several attempts to get it looking right, so I think I may be running out of a time to make her a card as well! Happy Mothers Day xx

A few little sketches

One day of sunshine and my girls immediately want to dress like it's summer! Still, it gave me an excuse to stop the spring cleaning and enjoy some sketching of my favourite subjects!
I have been working on 2 new paper cut out portraits as a mothers day pressie for my mum and look forward to sharing them very soon x

Mevagissey Lighthouse

After a short break in Cornwall last year I came home full of inspiration to paint! I had seen some of Mike Bernard's work in the galleries there and looked at his website;   http://www.mikebernardri.com/
I promptly ordered his book, wow! so many lovely paintings and lots of new techniques to try.

I had done an oil pastel sketch of Mevagissey Lighthouse and decided to make this the subject of my mixed media project. It took a long time to complete, adding layers of paint and collage but this was the end result.

I particularly enjoyed using cling film to make an interesting effect for the sky and have used this technique for other things since. The sea was made by layering torn pieces of paper and paint to create texture.

                           Best Snow Day Ever

Inspired by another one of Shimelle's sketches on http://www.shimelle.com/  All the lovely layers gave me some extra space for a pull out tab containing more photos as well as some journaling about our "best snow day ever"

                                Evening Hill Sunset

I recently found Shimelle's website with lots of great scrapbooking ideas to look at. I have never used someone else's sketch before and thought I would have a go. This sketch is one of a series from  http://www.shimelle.com/

These pictures were made by cutting out the lines and shaded areas of simple drawings made from photos of my children.. I really enjoy using this technique as I can create something quite large and dramatic in a relatively short amount of time.
